When
you want to hit the ball low under a
branch, it shoots up like a rocket. When you want to hit an approach
shot high to land soft, the ball barely gets airborne. What's going on?
Irons are tricky to master because what your instincts tell you is the
right thing to do, is usually dead wrong.
To
hit irons solidly, which is
the key to distance control and accuracy, you need to hit down and
compress the ball
between the ground and the face of the club. This produces
backspin
which, added to the club's loft, makes the ball rise. That’s
right, there has to be some backspin for the ball to go up or it
behaves like a knuckle ball.
If you
hit low-flying skulls, chances are
your clubhead is whipping ahead of your hands as you try to scoop the
ball into the air. That puts the leading edge of the club into contact
with the ball. This is a very common mistake. Almost all beginning
golfers try to make the ball go up.
Reading
about golf
swing fundamentals is a
good place to start if you want to improve your golf swing. But how can
you know which of those fundamentals are right for you and consistent
with what you are trying to do.
Will
you be able to apply those golf swing
fundamentals
to your own swing? What will you work on 1st? How will you know you are
working on the right things and in the right order?
You
need to be careful because —
most of the
information you're bombarded with in magazines, books, TV, etc. will be
conflicting. Do not jump from one swing theory to the next.
You
must
work with something you believe in and understand and then stick with
it. This is the shortest and surest way to lasting improvement. You
will develop a swing that will hit the ball solid time after time. It
will be come so natural, that you can focus on how to play the game
instead of swing changes on every other swing.
Believe me, I have been
there. Constantly changing your swing and searching for that next magic
cure or tip only leads to frustration and mediocrity at best. Listening
to your buddies who can't break 80, analyze your swing and telling you
everything you are doing wrong. They will follow with what you need to
do, so you too, can't ever break 80.
Let
me lay out a plan that will work for you, just as it has for 100's of
other golfers like you trying to improve their games. You have nothing
to loose, and everything to gain.
In
the True Golf Swing you will learn how to hit the ball solid,
consistently and you will understand why. I will give you a plan to
follow to make sure you stay on target. You will be able to repeat
your swing day in and day out with confidence in no time. This
will allow
you to focus on other game improvement areas such as course management,
short game techniques and putting.
