The over the top move is a very common ,but fatal, mistake made by the average golfer.

Many golfers swing their arms "up" on the backswing and then try and rotate their bodies back to the left as hard as they can. In essence, they are combining characteristics of the one plane and two plane swings, which doesn't work and creates the dreaded "over the top" move creating a pull slice.

Coming over the top comes from the hit impulse. In a lot of sports we are taught to hit the ball. The focus is on the object you are trying to affect.

A player comes over the top when the shoulder moves outward rather than down at the start of the downswing. This gets the arms out over the plane making it impossible to hit a solid on line golf shot. The club takes an out-to-in swing path approaching the ball, resulting in a pull or slice, depending on whether the clubface is closed, square or open to that path at impact. Your shoulders will be aimed left of the target.

This is one of the most common flaws as well as one of the most fatal. You have no chance to hit a quality shot from here.

A bad golf swing requires a lot of compensations and manipulations and is very hard to repeat day after day. A bad swing takes a lot of practice to keep it somewhat under control. This is why most golfers don't improve, or improvement is only short term. If you lay off for a week or two, you have to struggle to get your game back.

I will teach you how to avoid this fatal flaw with a totally different approach to the golf swing. The entire theme of my book is how to swing the club correctly. I do not waste your time and mine by dwelling on what not to do. I will try to give you a thorough understanding of the flaws so you can recognize them if they raise their ugly head, but, the main focus will be on the things that you must do to execute a correct swing.

I am sure you have heard a good golf swing is easy. It is!! You just need to understand what a good swing is and how to execute it. My book will share with you my insights from my 30+ years of experience on that correct swing.
